Just another night at the Burnett house......
On Tuesday night, I woke up about 1:20 am to a very scary sound. I thought I heard footsteps and then a (I'm going to use basketball to describe this sound....you know like if you're on the basketball court and your shoes are slick so you kind of scoot your shoes on the floor, but in a very quick motion several times? If you played basketball you know what I'm talking about and if you didn't.....well you should have.....Its that kind of screeching, shoe rubbing on the floor noise).
Well I'm immediately in a panic because Wes is sound asleep and I dont know what to do. So I lay there for probably 3-4 minutes just listening however I dont hear the sound again. But I'm still nervous and at this point I'm like breaking out in a sweat. Well I want to be very very quiet because if someone is in the house, I don't want them to know I'm awake. So very quitely I attempt to wake Wes up. After nudging him several times, his eyes barely open. Well again I'm trying to be very quiet so I'm trying to whisper to him that I heard something but nothing is coming out and he closes his eyes again. Then I'm even more in a panic because I think someone is in my house and my husband won't wake up. So then I proceed to grab his face and shake it quite fiercly if I do say so myself. He then says STOP and rolls over. At this point I'm beyond panic-stage because he just yelled and whoever is in our house knows we're awake. So I go back to the complete silence stage for another couple of minutes. Then I attempt to wake him up again. IT FINALLY WORKS!!!
I whisper to him that "I think I heard something." He says "What did it sound like?" Well in my brain, I'm thinking I can't tell him I heard footsteps because anyone in their right mind wouldn't go searching for an intruder so I reply with "I don't know." He says "Was it inside or out?"
"Inside," I say. Then we're back to the lets lay here in complete silence stage. So this lasts a couple minutes. Then Wes (Who I have scared to death by the way I'm acting) says "Do you want to go with me to look?" I mean seriously???? Do I want to go with you???? NO I don't WANT to go with you. Are you crazy? But being the amazing wife that I am, I say Yes I will go with you.
I take my phone off the charger and turn it on, because if someone is in my house I need to be able to call 911. Well we proceed to go throughout the whole house and turn on every single light and what did we find you ask...........Nothing of course. I looked in closets and under beds but found nothing. So we go back to bed....by this time its about 2:40.
Well I go to work Wednesday and on and off all day I'm thinking about this sound that I heard. I mean I was terrified. It sounded just like someones feet on our floor, in my house!!! Well I'm dreading going to bed Wed night because deep inside I'm still scared and was thinking theres no way I'm going to be able to sleep.
Well its about 10:00 which means.....bed time. I get into bed and fall asleep no problem. I'm sleeping like a baby then all of a sudden, I'm awakened again....about 1:30 by the same exact sound as the night before! What comes next you ask? The moment of silence....laying in bed eyes wide open in a state of panic. Well I hear the noise not one more time, but TWO!!!! However, as I'm listening it sounds a lot closer than the night before....this noise is in our bedroom!!! I keep listening, hands on head nervous (Freed Friends you know what I mean). I Hear this noise a 3rd time and its even closer....its in MY BED! I roll over.....only to discover. This awful noise is my husband....grinding his teeth!!!
I know you probably think, theres no way he is grinding his teeth so hard that its making a LOUD screeching type noise, but believe me...its true. This noise was loud enough to wake me up...twice! And loud enough to put me in a nervous panic two nights in a row.
I think I need to make him a dentist appointment. :)
That is stinkin' hilarious!!!! I hate getting woken up in the middle of night and being scared to death. Even when you know it's nothing to be scared about it still sticks with you. I hope you get the grinding under control!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the BEST post I have ever read in the history of blogs. My friend, you have made me laugh so hard. I grind my teeth and good thing Adam is a serious heavy sleeper. Meg, this is too.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Hands on head nervous! You're so funny! Stan completely understands what you're going through because he gets woken up a lot by my grinding teeth. And you're right, he might want to go to the dentist about it! lol Great post!
